Optimizing the performance of assets to increase reliability and availability, minimize costs, and reduce operational risks.View demo
Asset Performance Management (APM) is a suite of software and services designed to help optimize asset performance and O&M efficiency across equipment, the plant and the entire fleet. Featuring Digital Twin analytics, work process automation and built-in GE industry expertise, APM provides unique value to modern industrial operations.
APM’s rich functional pillars for Health, Reliability, Strategy, Integrity and Safety can be used independently or together to provide a comprehensive approach to asset and O&M management. APM is available both as a cloud-based service on the Predix Platform as well as on-premises software.
When it comes to APM technology, several vendors offer functionality across multiple usage scenarios, but the reality is that more doesn’t always mean better. In fact, only two such scenarios are essential to APM: asset health monitoring and asset failure prediction. It’s here that GE Digital really rises above the rest, based on our detailed benchmark analysis they were the only APM vendor to receive a perfect score in both areas. But these aren’t the only areas in which GE Digital sets the bar high. They also received market-leading scores for integration with industrial systems, inspection planning and solution architecture (assessed in terms of the range of deployment options, the consistency of the code base and the quality of integrated workflow).
Many vendors claim they have APM but actually have only asset analytics with no direct diagnostics capabilities. Integration with critical plant management solutions, like EAM, enables true APM companies to bring together data from all equipment and OEMs across the plant and the fleet to eliminate data silos and facilitate reliability improvements, optimize O&M spend and quantify risk reduction.
[GE Digital also] made significant improvements to its Asset Performance Management platform (including cloud-enabled Predix APM and the on-premise version, APM Classic). LNS has long considered GE Digital the granddaddy of APM, well-aligned with our definition of APM 4.0 and vision for what we call ‘closing the reliability loop,’ whereby one moves from prescriptive to prognostic capabilities, and eventually to a learning asset management system. GE Digital is not sitting on its laurels and we would encourage existing and potential users to get an update on these developments.

Reduce unplanned downtime and increase availability and reliability by helping to ensure critical assets and systems are monitored and protected from emerging threats.
Improve workforce productivity by prioritizing maintenance based on criticality and cost (condition-based), rather than schedule-based maintenance practices.
Protect the health and safety of employees, the environment, and business objectives, by reducing asset-related incidents and unplanned downtime.
Reduce costly emergency repairs by detecting problems early, turning unplanned downtime into planned/scheduled downtime.
Reduce TCO delivered via a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model, providing flexibility and access to business insights where it matters—with edge, cloud, and hybrid configurations.
A standardized way to connect machines, data, and people with a consistent interface for superior user experience, dynamic scalability, and extendibility to grow functionality as business needs evolve.
“GE Digital’s APM solution was the first, and best tool, we could find that had a policy builder which let us use logic and algorithms to leverage shop expertise and generate specific actions from our data.”
"In support of our overall company goals to significantly improve safety of employees, preserve the environment, and take the lead in implementing the best available technology and systems to achieve maximum cost effectiveness, we chose the reliability centered maintenance capability to best meet our current and future needs.”
"As a result of implementing the APM solution, we're expecting qualitative improvements in the following aspects of asset management: enhancing equipment reliability by means of constantly improving strategies of maintenance, reducing the costs of repair and maintenance scheduling, effectively reallocating resources, and hence decreasing production risks."
GE SmartSignal provides the Digital Twin analytics, alerting and analysis tools at the core of the APM solution. Unique predictive, diagnostic, and forecasting analytics work together to detect emerging issues, identify the cause, and indicate the required timeframe for action. SmartSignal data, alerts and results are an integrated component of APM Health dashboards, APM Reliability and other APM functions.
APM Health Manager provides a unified comprehensive view of asset health, featuring drill-down views of performance data, alerts, performance KPIs and more. Dashboards are powered by APM’s robust OT/IT data collection, EAM/CMMS integration and policy rules engine.
APM Health also includes:
Powered by SmartSignal analytics, APM Reliability provides visibility and analysis of asset performance, trends and predictive alerts. With built in workflows for root-cause analysis, reliability management and collaboration, APM Reliability allows customers to investigate and remediate emerging issues while driving long term performance improvements.
Provides a common methodology to develop and manage asset strategies by using a risk-based approach to conduct analysis of individual assets, a group of assets, or an asset system.
Equips organizations with a closed-loop mechanical integrity program and helps operators to reduce risk, lower inspection costs, and ensure regulatory compliance relative to their fixed assets.
Predix Essentials is the foundation of the cloud-based version of APM. Beyond secure data connectivity, processing and storage, Predix Essentials provides rich user features such as dashboarding, analysis, alerts, cases and policies that are seamlessly integrated into the APM user experience.
With the COVID-19 crisis and incredible drop in oil prices, many capital projects are on hold. Reducing operating expenses is now the top priority for many industrial organizations, while juggling the new restrictions of a remote workforce. The challenge is finding opportunities to reduce non-essential costs without introducing risks to the business that could lead to long term lost revenue and process safety incidents.
GE Digital’s asset reliability experts share tips, case studies and analytics to help you reduce unnecessary costs and focus resources on critical assets. Our data science team can also help find these hidden opportunities within EAM or CMMS data you’re already collecting.
