In 2009, GE established a manufacturing plant in the seaport city of Haiphong in response to the growing global demand for power generation equipment and in support of cleaner energy production. The factory’s operation runs the gamut of the production line, from the 1.X Wind Turbine Generator and 2.X Wind Turbine Generator to electrical control systems components as well as fabrication components. The multiple production lines in the factory double in volume from year to year. The factory is a significant contributor to the GE's localization strategy and has, to date, accounts for, on average, 15 percent of the local content produced at the Haiphong plant. An upcoming second phase will be initiated according to expected future levels of demand and this move is estimated to double the facility's workforce, thereby creating more and better career opportunities for Vietnamese citizens.
