For more than a century, volunteerism has been a vibrant part of GE’s culture, as both an individual employee activity as well as an organizational effort. We coordinate our resources — including products, matching gifts, grants and people — to create responses tailored to local and individual challenges. Today, the ultimate measure of GE’s business is found in the improvements to the lives touched by our work.
Since December 2007, we have organized annual Movie Night events for underprivileged children from orphanages in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Each year, during the holiday season, our volunteers treat these children to movies, healthy meals, and fun activities. Around 200 GE volunteers and families participate in this program every year.
The GE Volunteers Council in Vietnam encourages members to actively participate in various volunteer programs that benefit the community. These activities include cleaning the campus of Hoa Phuong Orphanage center in Haiphong, teaching the children to live healthily, conducting a rubbish collection campaign at Nha Trang and Da Nang beach, and planting trees at local school. GE Volunteers also mobilize donation drives during times of calamities such as for the victims of natural disasters in Quang Binh, Ha Tinh Province, and victims of severe accident in Can Tho Province, among many others instances.
GE HCM has been a strong supporter of the Blood Donation Drive by Red Cross as we appreciate the fact that many people will need blood or blood products at some stage in their lives. Continuing with our successful blood donations early this year and last year, another blood donation event has been organized at CR3 on 14th September by GE HealthAhead Committee in corporation with HCMC Red Cross, Phu My Hung, Phu Hung & SKF. 45 GE employees and friends have donated a total of 13.650ml of blood.
