GE continues to invest significantly in the region, helping our venture partners serve the growing population of business and leisure travelers in Vietnam. Our venture partners in Vietnam have come to value our advanced jet engines, which are both easy to maintain and cost-effective to use. It is no wonder, then, that the most prominent airlines in Vietnam continue to trust GE to equip them with the engines that propel them to reach their lofty aviation goals.

Jet Engines:

CFM56-5B

The CFM56-5B is the engine of choice for the A320 family, having been selected to power the Airbus Corporate Jet (ACJ) and nearly 60 percent of the A318/A319/A320/A321 aircraft ordered. This reliable engine demonstrates GE’s commitment to quality. One of our earliest customers in the region, Vietnam Airlines has used the CFM56-5B engine since the mid-1990’s to power 10 of its Airbus A320 aircrafts. As a testament to its quality and reliability, the engine has logged over 129,000 flight hours with no in-flight shutdowns, and has a 99.9% dispatch reliability rate.

GE90

Originally certified in 1995 at 84,700 lbs. of thrust, today's GE90 engine powers more advanced Boeing 777 aircraft, capable of flying farther, faster and more efficiently than their predecessors. It powers five different types of Boeing 777. At 127,000 pound of thrust, the GE90-115B is one of the world’s most powerful jet engines.

Most recently, 14 GE90 engines were purchased by Vietnam Airlines for use in the region. The GE90-94B powered Boeing 777 aircraft is the first long-range aircraft utilized by Vietnam Airlines. The engines unmatched flexibility and reliability allows the airline to provide non-stop flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City straight to Paris, France.

GEnx

The GEnx aircraft engine uses the latest generation materials and design processes to reduce weight, improve fuel efficiency and lower maintenance costs for mid-size, long-range aircrafts such as the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

In October 2013, GE provided 40 GEnx jet engines for Vietnam Airlines’ fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. Using new generation materials and design processes to reduce weight, improve performance, and lower the need for maintenance, the GEnx engine meant a 15 percent reduction in fuel usage for the fleet. GE is proud to partner with Vietnam Airlines, providing the GEnx for its Boeing 787 aircrafts and helping the airline in its effort to become one of Asia’s primary carriers of choice by 2020.
