Tapan Shah is a Lead Scientist at GE Research in Bangalore. His research primarily focuses on using machine learning and optimization to create advanced prognostic, diagnostic and troubleshooting applications for asset and operations management in the transportation, healthcare, and energy sector. He has deep technical expertise in the areas of extreme classification, matrix factorization, model fusion, anomaly detection, online learning and Bayesian methods. Several of his AI based solutions have been deployed as analytical products leading to significant productivity as well as financial impact.
He received the prestigious "5 under 5" award by the GE CTO for technical leadership in the areas of Machine Learning and Signal Processing. Tapan has 3 granted patents, 4 filed patents and several publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. His other professional activities include being on the advisory board of Cambridge Publishers', reviewer for ML and PHM conferences and offering mentorship to young data scientists. Prior to joining GE Research in 2014, Tapan was a PhD scholar (2008-13) at the School of Technology and Computer Science at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research.
