Soumya received his master’s degree in Computer Application from India and pursued his second master’s degree in Computer Vision and Robotics with an EU funded scholarship between 2007-2009 in Heriot Watt University, UK, University of Girona, Spain and University of Dijon, France. The focus of the program was on hands on development of computer vision and machine learning algorithms used in the context of industrial inspection, defect detection, robot path planning, tracking, and medical image analysis. He received his PhD degree in computer science in 2012 from the University of Dijon and University of Girona focussed on machine learning, image segmentation, shape modeling and multi-modal registration to improve ultrasound and MRI fusion biopsy.
Over the last 8 years he has been involved in developing machine learning, segmentation and registration methods applied to oncology, healthcare analytics and cardiology. He has been involved in developing machine learning, segmentation and registration methods applied to cancer detection, prognosis prediction and treatment planning for cancer patients. His research over the past years has resulted in around twenty high impact journal papers, and thirty peer reviewed conference papers. His research led to several invention disclosure filings and he has received two patents till date.
