As technology director for GE Research’s Materials and Mechanical Systems organization, Joseph leads a global team of mechanical, chemical, materials, and manufacturing engineers who are working to advance the state of the art for complex mechanical systems, innovative system-level designs, advanced materials, and revolutionary manufacturing methods. Joseph also plays an active role in shaping multi-generation product and technology plans for GE’s businesses, positioning GE Research’s materials technologies for future growth.

Joseph brings to his role an entrepreneurial approach and breadth of experience with industry, academia, and government partners. He has more than 20 years of advanced technology research and development experience spanning material mechanics, structural design, and advanced manufacturing technologies. Throughout his tenure at GE, Joseph has proven himself as a trusted leader and partner in delivering breakthrough advancements in nanotechnology, ceramic matrix composites, and additive manufacturing.

In addition, his continued leadership of GE Research’s emerging and expanding portfolio of technology supporting GE Edison Works and the U.S. Department of Defense brings critical experience and relationships that further enhance opportunities for GE Research, both inside and outside of GE.

Prior to GE, Joseph led key technology programs for Pratt & Whitney’s Advanced Military Engine business where he built an understanding of the government customer base. Later, he served as director of Corporate Relations at Cornell University where he cultivated long-term strategic technology partnerships between the university and the private sector.

Joseph holds a Master of Science in Business Management with a concentration in Entrepreneurship and Radical Innovation from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from Syracuse University.
