Dave Vernooy

PhD, Physics (Caltech) BS, Engineering Physics (Queen's University)

Dave Vernooy is the Research Director for Digital & Exponential Technologies at GE Research and has been with GE for 13 years. He and his team of 100 researchers focus on developing new software, autonomy, AI, robotics and computer vision technologies to drive productivity and new business growth for GE’s customers and businesses. To execute on GE’s vision, they also form research partnerships to ensure the speed and broad external view required by these fast-moving technologies.

Prior to his current role, he was VP of Digital Product Management at GE Renewable Energy he was responsible for all cloud and machine-based digital product and service offerings, as well as the data science and advanced analytics to support them. He has also held product management and engineering leadership roles in GE’s Power business unit. As a graduate of GE’s Corporate Technology Staff program, he has done extended projects inside GE’s Power Services, Aviation and Oil & Gas business units. Prior to GE, Dave was Director of Engineering at a start-up (now part of Huawei) developing and scaling products for fiber-to-the-home.

Dave holds 58 US patents in remote and harsh environment sensing, healthcare imaging, semiconductor and optoelectronic devices and fabrication, electronics packaging and solar energy. Dave has a Ph.D. in Physics from Caltech and a B.Sc. in Engineering Physics and Electrical Engineering from Queen’s University, Canada.
