Dave Vernooy

PhD, Physics (Caltech) BS, Engineering Physics (Queen's University)

Dave is the research director for Digital & Exponential Technologies at GE Research. He leads a team of 100 researchers who develop new software, autonomy, artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and computer vision technologies to drive productivity and new business growth for GE’s customers and businesses. To execute on GE’s vision, they also form research partnerships to ensure the speed and broad external view required by these fast-moving technologies.

Prior to his current role, Dave served as vice president of digital product management at GE Renewable Energy. He was responsible for all cloud and machine-based digital product and service offerings, as well as the data science and advanced analytics to support them. He has also held product management and engineering leadership roles with GE Power. As a graduate of GE’s Corporate Technology Staff program, Dave has completed extended projects with GE’s Power Services, Aviation, and Oil & Gas businesses.

Prior to joining GE, Dave was director of engineering at a start-up (now part of Huawei) where he developed and scaled products for fiber-to-the-home.

Dave holds 58 U.S. patents in remote and harsh environment sensing, healthcare imaging, semiconductor, and optoelectronic devices and fabrication, electronics packaging, and solar energy.

Dave holds a PhD in Physics from Caltech and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics and Electrical Engineering from Queen’s University, Canada.
