Can GE set new efficiency standards for coal-fired power?
YES. Higher efficiency can lead to both improved economics and reduced greenhouse emissions from coal power. Our ultra-supercritical technologies achieve the highest efficiency rate at a coal-fired power plant, delivering 47.5% against the global average of 33%. Each percentage point improvement in efficiency reduces CO2 emissions from coal power plants by 2%.
As a leader in ultra-supercritical steam technology, GE continues to push the limits of our best-in-class steam technology even further. With higher steam parameters and higher efficiency rates, GE is the first-to-market with advanced ultra-supercritical technology. We call it SteamH.
Can GE lower my plant’s emissions to meet the strictest environmental requirements?
YES. GE is proud to have 80 years of experience and the broadest range of air quality control systems (AQCS) for coal power. Our technology can address all the sources of non-greenhouse gas emissions, like NOx, SOx and particulate matter from any coal-fired power plant and remove up to 99% of the local emissions. We can meet and exceed the world’s strictest emissions regulations.

For example, Asset Performance Management (APM) continuously monitors steam plant equipment health, enabling operations teams to make decisions that enhance plant performance, reduce unplanned downtime, and extend plant life with minimal capital investment.
When steam power plants are operating in grid demand mode, they are required to ramp up faster and more often than they were originally designed to—making real-time monitoring especially important. Our Digital Power Plant software interprets data from more than 10,000 sensors to improve coal-fired steam power plant performance. The results? A 1.5% increase in efficiency and allows for 5% less unplanned downtime and 3% lower CO2 emissions.

Our Plant Integrator approach is based on our ability to combine GE’s components and auxiliary equipment into fully enhanced and integrated systems.
