The Power of YES
Many countries are choosing coal power plants as part of their energy mix to secure their grid while introducing intermittent power sources. With coal in the mix, they can provide around-the-clock power to meet their population’s growing needs and deliver stable energy supply to their rising industries. At GE, we understand the need for new but improved coal power plants. This is why we have been investing in the latest technology to ensure we deliver it in the best way possible. Now, when it comes to your most pressing questions, our answer is yes. This is the Power of Yes.
Can GE set new efficiency standards for coal-fired power?
YES. Higher efficiency can lead to both improved economics and reduced greenhouse emissions from coal power. Our ultra-supercritical technologies achieve the highest efficiency rate at a coal-fired power plant, delivering 47.5% against the global average of 33%. Each percentage point improvement in efficiency reduces CO2 emissions by 2%.
As a leader in ultra-supercritical steam technology, GE continues to push the limits of our best-in-class steam technology even further. With higher steam parameters and higher efficiency rates, GE is the first-to-market with advanced ultra-supercritical technology. We call it SteamH.
Can GE lower my plant’s emissions to meet the strictest environmental requirements?
YES. GE is proud to have 80 years of experience and the broadest range of air quality control systems (AQCS) for coal power. Our technology can address all the sources of non-greenhouse gas emissions, like NOx, SOx and particulate matter from any coal-fired power plant and remove up to 99% of the local emissions. We can meet and exceed the world’s strictest emissions regulations.
Cleaner air means a higher acceptance of coal-fired plants in local communities, and equally important, by lenders and financial institutions—leading to better financing terms for our customers.
Can GE Digital help improve my coal plant’s performance?
YES. What do you get by combining the physical strengths of GE’s coal-fired steam plant technology with our industry-leading digital capabilities powered by Predix? Better performance, greater efficiencies, and improved reliability of existing and future coal power plants.
Asset Performance Management (APM) continuously monitors steam plant equipment health, enabling operations teams to make decisions that enhance plant performance, reduce unplanned downtime, and extend plant life with minimal capital investment.
When steam power plants are operating in grid demand mode, they are required to ramp up faster and more often than they were originally designed to—making real-time monitoring especially important. Our Digital Power Plant software interprets data from more than 10,000 sensors to improve coal-fired steam power plant performance. The result? A 1.5% increase in efficiency, 5% less unplanned downtime and 3% lower CO2 emissions.
A flexible offering for coal and oil-fired plants
Our Plant Integrator approach is based on our ability to combine GE’s components and auxiliary equipment into fully enhanced and integrated systems. Our manufacturing, construction, commissioning, and operation experience results in continuous improvements to GE’s components and standardized/pre-engineered solutions. This leads to improved performance of coal-fired power plants, as well as cost and delivery time reduction, which helps our customers achieve and exceed their objectives.
GE applies the concept of flexible offerings across our portfolio, allowing our customers to select from parts of coal-fired plants that meet their specific requirements, while maintaining the key benefits of standardization and pre-engineering processes.
INTEGRATED POWER PACKAGE
GE’s Integrated Power Package (i.PP) supplies customers with world-class equipment for coal-fired power plants. These include coal-fired boilers and turbines, all of which are designed to operate as one unit. This allows us to provide excellent performance and power output.
GE’s flexible offering allows for excellent layout of the turbine hall, providing significant savings in construction and labor costs.
GE’s competitive power block offering is based on our extensive global experience integrating key components with varied scope of supply and our proven solutions.
FULL TURNKEY POWER PLANT
GE’s range of capabilities in the design and integration of steam power plant solutions gives us a unique, integrated perspective that allows us to analyze the entire plant over its full life cycle.
