OXY-COMBUSTION CO2 CAPTURE-Chilled Ammonia Process (CAP)

Chilled Ammonia Process (CAP) is a chemical absorption process using an ammonium-based aqueous solvent that is environmentally benign in terms of emissions. The flue gas is contacted with chemical solvent—forming ammonium bicarbonate, ammonium carbonate, and ammonium carbamate. The chemical reactions are reversible, and raising the temperature and the pressure of the reaction products also reverses the capture reactions. This releases CO2 and allows the solvent to be regenerated and returned to the process.

We can apply the Chilled Ammonia Process to various types of power plants such as coal, gas, and biomass, as well as a vast range of industrial processes emitting CO2. The technology uses ammonia for the solvent, which is a globally available, low-cost commodity chemical with excellent thermal and chemical properties.
