A great team must work in sync, collaborating and empowering each other to reach a goal. With this in mind, Power Services and SPR Energy (M) Sdn Bhd (SPR Energy) signed an agreement to improve operation and maintenance (O&M) at the Kimanis Sabah power plant in Malaysia. The multiyear agreement (MYA) spans 18 years—offering digital solutions with the aid of GE’s Asset Performance Management (APM) software application. The agreement is the first-of-its-kind in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region.

“At SPR, we constantly seek catalysts and transformations that lead to sustainable growth outcomes and help meet growing power demands in the State of Sabah,” said Chris Sy Choon Yen, chief executive director of SPR Energy. “Strategically, it makes sense for us to enlist a single trusted and credible service provider to help upgrade, manage and modernized our existing assets, which consist of equipment from various power generation companies, at our Kimanis facility. This multiyear agreement complements our growth strategy in Malaysia and presents opportunities for us to expand our collaboration with GE in the global arena.”

The deal emerged from an established relationship and shared vision of long-term objectives, industry standards, and best practices. What’s more, GE’s scope and capabilities aligned with Malaysia’s energy production goals, providing a solid foundation for the historic agreement.

The MYA's focus is on making SPR Energy’s equipment safer and more reliable, targeting two GE 6B gas turbines, two heat recovery steam generators and a non-GE steam turbine. Equally important, GE’s cross-fleet capability offers maintenance and service solutions, reducing cost while improving availability and reliability.  Additionally, GE’s Monitoring and Diagnostics (M&D) Center in Kuala Lumpur will offer 24/7 support, providing real-time diagnostics and condition forecasting to mitigate risk and reduce downtime.
