Welcome to Rugby: A one-stop shop for steam rotating equipment

We recently celebrated the addition of a new generator service cell at our service center in Rugby, UK—officially making Rugby a high-capacity, one-stop shop for industrial plant steam turbine island equipment. With all steam turbine and generator repairs and new manufacture now under a single roof, our Rugby team can perform repairs and upgrades faster and more efficiently, saving cycle time for our industrial customers.

But our Rugby steam turbine and generator repair facility has always been powered by our people. We have more than 100 specialists working together to repair and refurbish our industrial customers’ steam rotating equipment. This dedicated team has extensive experience handling end-to-end steam turbine and generator service on industrial equipment manufactured by GE and many other OEMs.

Here’s just a handful of the many industrial steam repairs we can handle from the Rugby facility:

  • Generator rotor repairs, rewind and manufacture
  • Generator and steam turbine balancing, boring and welding
  • Steam turbine diaphragm manufacture, service and overhauls
  • Steam turbine rotor repairs and manufacture
  • Steam turbine blade servicing through module builds/assembly
  • Non-destructive steam turbine testing
  • Inspection and life extension services

End-to-end steam rotating equipment expertise under one roof

What sets Rugby apart from other steam rotating equipment service shops? The same thing that sets the sport of rugby apart: an emphasis on teamwork.

A team of on-site engineers works alongside our repair and manufacturing experts—and it makes a difference. Even the most talented steam turbine service technician can sometimes use help determining the root problem before they can develop the proper solution. Working side by side with our steam turbine and generator repair experts, our engineers can quickly assess the condition of the steam equipment and determine the issue that needs to be repaired. Based on those findings, the service technicians can run through live lab tests of different repair options and develop a customized solution for each industrial customer.

A tradition of service

Today’s Rugby facility is built on a long history of technical expertise and innovation. Founded in 1897 by Willans and Robinson, Rugby was originally a manufacturing site for diesel engines for electricity generation and transitioned to steam turbines in 1905. It became part of the GE family in 2015 through the GE/Alstom Power integration, and with the addition of generator service in October 2019, the Rugby facility is now able to deliver a comprehensive range of repair solutions for steam turbine, generator and balance of plant equipment for GE and other OEM brand equipment.
