HA ACHIEVES 55,000+ OPERATING HOURS, 64% Efficiency
Plus more fleet milestones including 20 units COD across 6 countries
December 14, 2017
GE’s HA gas turbine technology has achieved several important milestones over the past few months. Here’s the round-up!
64% net efficiency
Recently at Power Gen International, we announced that the 9HA.02 can now be quoted at 64.0 percent net (not gross) efficiency in specified conditions with total output of 826 megawatts in 1x1 combined cycle configuration. This efficiency rate is higher than any other competing technology today, and was achieved largely due to GE’s advances in additive manufacturing and combustion breakthroughs through constant innovation. We remain on track to achieve 65 percent efficiency by the early 2020s.
Since we introduced the HA product line in 2013, HA total orders of 7HA turbines for 60Hz and 9HA for 50 Hz applications has grown to over 70 total orders around the world. The HA remains the fastest growing fleet of gas turbines, and we’ve extended our global reach over the last year to more than 16 countries – including Mexico, U.S., Brazil, Japan, Bahrain, France, China, and many others.
20 units in commercial operation
Last year, the very first HA turbine began commercial operation, EDF’s 9HA.01 in France, and clinched a world record as part of the world’s most efficient combined-cycle power plant at 62.22%. The plant has been operating with 99.7% reliability and 97.8% availability, [CK(P1] and is capable of reaching full power in less than 30 minutes. It has proven its high operational flexibility - critical attributes that support the security of a power grid with increasing renewable sources, which play a major role in the future of energy.
Since Bouchain came online, 19 other units (and counting) have followed suit in five other countries: Japan, Pakistan, Russia, Taiwan, and United States.
55,000+ operating hours
Since that first 9HA started turning in France, the Bouchain plant has accumulated over 10,000 hours of operation. The HA gas turbine fleet has already achieved an incredible 55,000+ operating hours, and we expect to exceed 300,000 hours by the end of 2018.
Award-winning power plants
We aren’t the only ones who think HA power plants are pretty special. EDF Bouchain was named POWER Magazine's Gas Plant of the Year in September and just last week, Exelon’s Wolf Hollow II was honored as Power Engineering’s Gas-Fired Project of 2017. The HA’s unsurpassed output, efficiency, operational flexibility, and digital capabilities were major factors in making these plants winner.
There are many more major milestones on the road ahead for GE’s HA fleet. Stay up to date with operating hours, installations, orders, and news here.
