Have A Heart: New Software Could 3D Print Organ Replicas On Demand

Tomas Kellner
April 26, 2017
Erica Endicott was pregnant with her son, Kaden, when cardiologists at Phoenix Children’s Heart Center discovered that the left side of the boy’s heart was not growing properly. Kaden, who is healthy now, was treated by a team of doctors in Boston for the life-threatening condition. Following the procedure, they used data from an ultrasound system to create and print 3D models of Kaden’s heart before and after his surgery.

The Heirs Of Gutenberg: GE Is Adding The Next Chapter Of Its 3D-Printing Push In Germany

Tomas Kellner
April 24, 2017
When the German inventor Johannes Gutenberg developed the printing press during the Renaissance, he set words, and ideas, free. Six hundred years later, his compatriot Frank Herzog is taking printing to a new dimension, using it to liberate designers and reinvent manufacturing. Herzog is the founder of Concept Laser, one of the leading makers of industrial 3D printers.

Small Wonders: 3D-Printing ‘Microfactories’ Are Coming To Abu-Dhabi, Dubai

Tomas Kellner
April 01, 2017
“Micro” isn’t a word that comes to mind when people talk about the United Arab Emirates, the home of the world’s tallest building, the largest man-made island and other grand attractions. But it points to the country’s future as a manufacturing and design hub. GE Additive, GE’s new business focusing on advanced technologies like 3D printing, said last week it would open the first two “microfactories” in the capital Abu-Dhabi and Dubai.

You won’t find the Italian commune of Cameri in many tourist guides. Located on the flat and fertile plains that stretch seemingly forever between Italy’s industrial dynamos of Milan and Turin, tiny Cameri seems a little lost. Like in most Italian towns, a splendid church and bell tower stand in the center, but during a recent visit in early February, its narrow streets were quiet and its stores either empty or closed. The busiest place in town was a pizzeria filled with a dozen locals finishing their lunch.

GE Invests $4.3 Billion To Build Next-Gen Jet Engines, Open New Factories In The US

Tomas Kellner
February 15, 2017
The GE9X jet engine that GE Aviation is developing for Boeing’s next-generation wide-body passenger jet, the 777X, is wider than the body of a Boeing 737 and more powerful than America’s first manned space rocket. It’s also a big deal for the company’s business. Although the world’s largest engine isn’t scheduled to enter service until around 2020, the company already has recorded some 700 orders and commitments valued at $28 billion at list price.
