France generates three-quarters of its electricity in nuclear power plants, but that figure is changing. The country aims to generate one-third of its energy from renewable sources. Solar and wind farms have been popping up everywhere, and now the country is reaching to a solution so groundbreaking it will never touch land at all: the floating wind turbine. “Floating wind farms are very innovative and can be a crucial part of the energy mix of the future,” says Léonore Petit, strategy and business development coordinator at GE Renewable Energy.

There is plenty of uncertainty in Brussels this summer, the home to a number of European Union institutions. But one safe bet in the Belgian metropolis is that the lights will stay on.
That’s because the city’s electrical grid is using the Industrial Internet to get smarter. Sibelga, the company that operates the only distribution network in Brussels, will soon adopt GE’s PowerOn Advantage, a sophisticated software solution that controls electricity flows between the traditional grid and the consumer. The software runs on Predix, GE’s data and analytics platform.

The 1893 World’s Fair in Chicago was a high point in American history. The fair boasted the first Ferris wheel, the first moving walkways and the introduction of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer. But for many visitors, the highlight of the six-month-long event was the dazzling lights.
At night, the fair was lit by hundreds of thousands of incandescent bulbs. Although GE founder Thomas Edison had patented the light bulb 14 years earlier, no one had seen a light exhibit on the scale of the Chicago fair.
