Boston Bound: GE Will Move Its Headquarters to Massachusetts

Seeking Boston’s “diverse and technologically-fluent” talent, GE said it would move its corporate headquarters to the Massachusetts capital from Connecticut, where it’s been based for four decades. “Today, GE is a $130 billion high-tech global industrial company, one that is leading the digital transformation of industry," said GE Chairman and CEO Jeff Immelt. "We want to be at the center of an ecosystem that shares our aspirations."

GE Will Open New AI, Robotics, and Product Management Labs In New York

GE will open three advanced technology labs at its global research headquarters in Niskayuna, New York. One lab will focus on artificial intelligence and robotics. The other two will lead the development of a new product management science. The company plans to hire some 100 new employees with PhDs and advanced degrees to staff the labs.

GE Chairman and CEO Jeff Immelt says he uses his undergraduate degree in mathematics more often than his Harvard MBA. “I use my math major every day, I don't use the MBA quite as much," Immelt told Business Insider’s Henry Blodget at the publication’s IGNITION 2015 conference. “I think most things that are about companies are about problem solving,” Immelt said.

Addressing a crowd of investors and analysts who packed the theater – best known as the set of Saturday Night Live – Immelt outlined the steps he’s made to turn GE into the world’s largest digital industrial company. "We're the only company that will have the machines, analytics and operating systems," he said.
