Using Grass As A Greener Source of Energy

January 07, 2015
Using Grass As A Greener Source of Energy
We are living in a world where energy is crucial and we can no longer rely solely on our natural resources for fuel. Innovation has opened up new possibilities for producing energy and at GE, the search for alternatives sources of energy is an ongoing process.

Here we share a great example of such an undertaking.

Taking the Carbon Out of Power Markets — Q&A with Manuel Baritaud

Manuel Baritaud International Energy Agency
November 17, 2014
As countries around the world seek to address climate change, one obvious place to focus is power production.

Not only does electricity generation account for about 40 percent of energy-related CO2 emissions, but the power sector is also expected to play more of a role in reducing the share of fossil fuels in the global energy mix than any other, the International Energy Agency (IEA) explains in its latest World Energy Outlook.

Amit Narayan: How Data Will Power the Future of Energy

Dr Amit Narayan Autogrid Inc
October 16, 2014
Throughout history, we’ve equated energy with the consumption of natural resources such as oil, natural gas or coal.

In the coming decades we will start to think of data and software as a source of energy.

What do I mean by that? Software won’t generate electrons, but it will let us leverage the electricity we are already generating in a more efficient and productive way.

Clean tech may conjure images of electric vehicles and solar-powered homes, but it’s no longer just about stand-alone hardware technologies you can plug into the grid or drive on the road.

Clean tech is increasingly about IT-enabled distributed and fully integrated energy systems that have the potential to transform lives around the world — as well as the prosperity and productivity of countries across the globe.

Sun-Powered Desalination for Villages in India

Mit News
October 03, 2014

Off-grid Indian communities with salty groundwater could get potable water through a proposed solar technique.

Around the world, there is more salty groundwater than fresh, drinkable groundwater. For example, 60 percent of India is underlain by salty water — and much of that area is not served by an electric grid that could run conventional reverse-osmosis desalination plants.

Part 1: Energy Efficiency is Our Future

July 21, 2014
“There can be no economy where there is no efficiency.” The words of Benjamin Disraeli have never been truer than in the modern energy landscape. Efficiency is one of the most important tools we have for controlling the bottom line of our energy production. More than that, it is a vital element of any country’s economic progression and security. According to Accenture’s report “Catching the ASEAN wave”, the ASEAN region’s economy is projected to grow by US$735 billion by 2020. The population is expected to grow from 633 million to 717 million by 2030.

President Barack Obama and the Environmental Protection Agency recently unveiled its highly anticipated proposal to curb power plant emissions.
Meanwhile, some people remain thoroughly convinced that climate change has no connection with power plant emissions. As the cornerstone of Obama’s climate change policy, this proposal is now met with adamant opposition.

EPA’s Sweeping Carbon Cuts Reduce Emissions 30 Percent by 2030

June 03, 2014
The Environmental Protection Agency released sweeping guidelines on Monday aimed at cutting greenhouse gas emissions from U.S. power plants. The guidelines, pushed out through executive order, will cut carbon pollution by 30 percent from 2005 levels by 2030.
“By leveraging cleaner energy sources and cutting energy waste, this plan will clean the air we breathe while helping slow climate change so we leave a safe and healthy future for our kids,” said EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy.
