Silverton’s new treasure: wind energy

January 19, 2017
A high-energy blockbuster is about to start production just outside Silverton, the historic silver-mining town and famed film location near Broken Hill, NSW. Movies shot in the quintessential Australian outback setting include Mad Max and Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. The village will soon be abuzz again, as hundreds of workers arrive to harvest a fortune that’s way more certain than either silver mining or movie making: wind energy.

Electrification Software Grid

So You Have A Wind Farm, Now What? This Software Will Bring More Renewable Power To People's Homes

June 28, 2016
You know it’s windy when water seemingly violates the law of gravity. That happened in Scotland last February when Storm Henry’s 100-miles-per-hour gale flipped a waterfall on the Isle of Mull on its head, made it cascade up a cliff and turned it into a YouTube sensation. No wonder wind power is big business in the Highlands.

Predictable power from thin air

September 15, 2013
One of the biggest challenges for renewable power generators is literally taming the winds.
Unpredictable winds and weather patterns can play havoc with the structured world of energy grids.

Enter GE’s solution, the Brilliant Turbine.
At 33 stories high, with rotor blades extending 50 metres in length, these massive structures contain unique battery software applications that are shifting the winds back into energy producers’ favour.
