Johanna Wellington was almost ready to approve the installation of a new gearbox in one of the wind turbines in GE Vernova’s U.S. fleet. But she paused because she was concerned about the manufacturing process of a subcomponent. The department she leads in GE Vernova’s Onshore Wind business had recently changed its name from Major Components Exchange to Major Components Upgrades, a nod to its new commitment: Any new part placed on an existing turbine had to be a higher-quality component than the one it was replacing.

Poland Shows Off Its Culture and Aviation Prowess to Students in GE Aerospace–Sponsored Program

This past May, 20 undergraduates from top American universities, half selected by GE Aerospace, headed off to visit Poland to get more familiar with the country’s huge economic potential, its culture, and its role in the region. GE Aerospace and the Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union, in cooperation with the Polish Presidential Palace, sponsored the 10-day Poland Immersion Trip. The trips began in 2017 and restarted again this year, the fourth excursion after a three-year break because of the COVID pandemic.

At age 16 Deborah Hicks was the youngest female pilot in Australia to fly solo. By the time she finished high school she had decided on a career in medicine when in 1987 Ros Kelly, then Minister for Defence, Science and Personnel opened up the Royal Australian Air Force to aspiring women pilots. Robyn Williams was one of the RAAF’s first female engineers, and had for years optimistically positioned herself for the moment when women could take their place on the RAAF flight deck.
