GE has been in Africa and an African company for more than 100 years. In 1898, GE established its first foreign office in what is now South Africa.

Throughout the continent, GE Transportation's Rail division has service, maintenance and refurbishment contracts with several major rail utilities, in countries such as Egypt, Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, Namibia, Zambia, Tanzania and South Africa.

Singapore Airlines Selects GE90-powered Boeing 777 fleet

August 25, 2004 -- EVENDALE, OH--Singapore Airlines (SA) has signed a letter of intent to purchase up to 31 GE90-powered Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.
Eighteen of the 31 aircraft are firm orders for delivery between 2006 and 2010. SA has purchased rights for the remaining 13 aircraft.
The potential value of the GE90 engine order for the 18 firm aircraft is more than $800 million.

GE90 Engines Logs Five Million Flight-Hours and One Million Engine Cycles

August 18, 2004 -- EVENDALE, OH -- General Electric's GE90 engine family has logged five million flight-hours and more than one million engine cycles powering Boeing's 777 twin-engine aircraft.
The first GE90 engine, the GE90-85B, entered service in November 1995 with British Airways. Since then, the engine family has grown to include several higher-thrust derivative engines and has set a world's record at 127,900 pounds of thrust.

GE Adds Revenue-Sharing Participants for the New GEnx Jet Engine

August 13, 2004 -- EVENDALE, Ohio -- General Electric Company has reached agreement in principle with two international aerospace companies to become revenue-sharing participants (RSPs) on GE's new GEnx jet engine.
Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries (IHI) of Japan, and Avio SpA. of Italy will be responsible for the design and manufacture of approximately 27 percent of the GEnx engine program, which is initially targeted for the Boeing 7E7 application.
