GEオイル＆ガスは、新潟県刈羽郡の刈羽事業所に金属光造形複合加工機（3Dプリンター）を導入し、エネルギー産業用プラントにおいて様々な用途で用いられる特殊仕様のコントロールバルブ部品製造を開始したことを発表します。
金属3Dプリンター使用によるメリットとして、積層造形によって従来までの製造方法では困難だった中空構造、曲面形状やメッシュ等、複雑な形状のものづくりが可能となることから、バルブ部品設計の自由度が大幅に向上。また一体成型が可能となることで複数の加工プロセスが不要になるため、従来方式よりも製造日数の短縮化や低コスト化の実現等が挙げられます。具体的には、従来の製造方法では約3か月必要と見込まれていた特殊な形状の部品製造が約2週間で可能となるなど、納期の短縮化に大きく貢献しました。
