The South East Asia Haze: Cause and Effects

It’s no secret to the people of Malaysia and Indonesia that something is in the air. That something, is not pleasant.
A thick, acrid haze has smothered Malaysia, Indonesia and regional neighbour Singapore once again this year, as Indonesia’s annual burning sends clouds of smoke billowing over the region.

As Indonesia’s president Joko Widodo recently announced, even having sent 3,700 soldiers and 8,000 police officers to address the problem, tackling the fire and reducing the root cause of the haze could take years. So what do we know about the haze and its effects?

GECAS Regional Aircraft Group Completes Purchase-and-Leaseback Transaction with Nok Air for Two New Bombardier Q400 NextGen Aircraft

SHANNON, Ireland - October 7, 2015 - GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS), the commercial aircraft leasing and financing arm of GE, today announced its Regional Aircraft Group delivered two new leased Bombardier Q400 NextGen turboprop aircraft to low-cost carrier Nok Air under a purchase-and-leaseback transaction.GECAS completed a similar purchase-and-leaseback with the carrier in 2014, also for two factory-new Q400 NextGen aircraft.

GE: Providing a more effective and innovative solution to power Vietnam

With energy demands growing rapidly, Vietnam is optimising electricity generation to ensure its power-hungry industries stay on the grid. The Vietnamese government expects the electricity demand to reach 360 billion kWh in 2020, compared to a projected 210 kWh in 2015. In line with the rising demand, total investment for the power sector is estimated to reach $48.8 billion in 2020 and nearly $75 billion in the period from 2021 to 2030. Given this scenario, the Vietnamese have been exploring more efficient ways to generate power, both in terms of costs as well as impact to the environment.

GE Capital Aviation Services Announces Purchase-and-Leaseback Transaction with Malindo Air for Six New Boeing 737-800s

September 30, 2015

SHANNON, Ireland - September 30, 2015 - GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS), the commercial aircraft leasing and financing arm of GE, today announced a purchase-and-leaseback transaction with Malindo Airways for six new Boeing 737-800 aircraft. Four of the aircraft have delivered to Malindo Air. The remaining two are scheduled for delivery in October. Malindo Air, headquartered in Malaysia, currently operates a fleet of 24 aircraft to more than 30 destinations.
