GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy Begins NRC Licensing Process for BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactor

WILMINGTON, North Carolina—January 30, 2020—GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH) today announced that it has officially begun the regulatory licensing process for its BWRX-300 small modular reactor.

On December 30, 2019 the company submitted the first licensing topical report (LTR) for the BWRX-300 to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). GEH expects such LTRs to serve as a foundation for the development of a Preliminary Safety Analysis Report that could potentially be submitted to the NRC by a utility customer.

Global Nuclear Fuel Accident Tolerant Fuel Assemblies Installed in U.S. Plant

WILMINGTON, North Carolina—January 14, 2020—Global Nuclear Fuel (GNF) today announced that lead test assemblies utilizing its ARMOR-coated zirconium cladding and IronClad Accident Tolerant Fuel solutions have been installed at Exelon Generation’s Clinton Power Station in Clinton, Illinois. The assemblies were developed as part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) accident tolerant fuel program and manufactured at GNF’s state-of-the-art facility in Wilmington, North Carolina.

GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy Completes Reactor Decommissioning Project in Sweden

WILMINGTON, North Carolina—December 18, 2019—GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH) announced today that it has completed its work supporting the decommissioning of the Oskarshamn Nuclear Power Plant (OKG) in Oskarshamn Municipality in Sweden.  

GEH recently completed the segmentation of reactor internals at OKG Unit 1. The company’s work at the Oskarshamn site began in 2017 with the dismantling and segmentation of reactor internals of OKG Unit 2.
