The day before, two GE LM6000 gas turbines in operation at the PLTG Senipah (PLTGS) power plant in Teluk Pemegas village, malfunctioned cutting power to three cities – Balikpapan, Tenggarong, and Samarinda - connected to the plant’s Mahakam network.

GE Inks $1 Billion in Deals to Help Solve Indonesia’s Electricity Gap, Fix Locomotives

GE signed four deals with Indonesia for a variety of critical energy and transport projects, the company said today. GE said the estimated combined value of the transactions exceeded $1 billion.
Three of the agreements will significantly boost power-generation capacity in Southeast Asia's biggest economy. The fourth accord provides maintenance for locomotives.

Desalination: Salt of the earth in the fight against water scarcity

The scarcity of fresh water resources and the need for additional water supply are critical issues in many countries around the world, including Indonesia. By 2015, Indonesia’s total population is projected to reach 247.5 million, as reported by the Central Bureau of Statistics (Badan Pusat Statistik/BPS).  That means Indonesia needs as much as 9,391 billion m3 of water by 2015; 47% more water than it needed in 2000.
