GE's Evolve™ LED Scalable Cobrahead Fixture Recognized as Category Winner at the 2013 LightFair Innovation Awards

April 24, 2013

  • LED Roadway lighting fixture receives additional honor after being named best-in-class in NGL competition

EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio --- April 24, 2013 --- (NYSE:GE) --- GE Lighting's Evolve™ LED Scalable Cobrahead fixture has been recognized for its pioneering design and technical excellence, winning the 2013 LightFair International Innovation Award category for Parking, Roadway and Area Luminaires.

The Evolve LED Scalable Cobrahead, a product of GE ecomagination℠, was chosen as category winner over nearly 30 other product entries representing 20 manufacturers. Introduced in 2012, it uses about 60 percent less energy than traditional Cobrahead fixtures and is available in four sizes and hundreds of photometric options to help municipalities light roadways of all types more efficiently than ever.

The LFI Innovation Awards is a presentation of the top lighting-related products and designs introduced over the last 12 months. This year, LFI received more than 300 submissions for the 15 designated categories, and products were judged by an independent panel of renowned lighting professionals. The winners were awarded for product entries that exemplify the best in innovative design and thinking.

The awards are sponsored by the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) and the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD). They were presented Tuesday in Philadelphia at LightFair International, the world's largest annual commercial and architectural lighting trade show and conference.

Earlier this year, GE's Evolve LED Scalable Cobrahead was awarded a Best-in-Class designation in the "Roadway Lighting" category in the 2012 Next Generation Luminaires™ (NGL) Solid-State Lighting Design Competition. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, the IES of North America, and the IALD, the NGL awards were created to recognize excellence in energy-efficient LED commercial lighting unit design.
