The GE family has pledged more than $10 million in cash, products and services to the relief efforts following the earthquake and tsunami in South Asia. This includes an overwhelming outpouring from employees, who as of today have donated nearly $2.4 million, every dollar of which will be matched by the GE Foundation. This is in addition to the Foundation's contributions of $1 million to the Red Cross and $100,000 to UNICEF.
In addition, GE Elfun Volunteers chapters in India and Indonesia have partnered with relief agencies to organize local food, clothing and fund drives.
GE products and services are being brought to bear in this effort. In the days following the tragedy, teams from GE Energy, GE Healthcare and GE Infrastructure were deployed to the region to assess where GE services could help.
The following GE products and services have already been deployed or are en route to the region:
GE Infrastructure is ready to deploy mobile water filtration plants to the region. These systems will provide significant amounts of potable water directly to families in the region.
GE Energy is sending electrical power generators; including those that will provide electricity to run GE's mobile water filtration systems.
GE Healthcare has sent a variety of portable medical equipment, including X-ray and ultrasound machines to assist in critical first-level healthcare.
