Continuum Health Partners, USF Health, Northridge Hospital Named Winners of Annual Awards
BARRINGTON, Ill. -- Sep 22, 2011 -- At the annual meeting of the Centricity* Perioperative National Users' Group, GE Healthcare announced Continuum Health Partners (New York City), University of South Florida Health (Tampa, Fla.) and Northridge Hospital Medical Center (Northridge, Calif.) as the winners of its 2011 Customer Innovation Awards. The awards, which recognize customers using GE's perioperative tools to impact health outcomes or internal revenue streams in unique ways, are an annual tradition for the group.
Continuum Health Partners received financial outcomes recognition for improving revenue core measures in a multi-site organization. Using Centricity Perioperative, reimbursement turnover time decreased by 3 days, revenue loss due to missing charges decreased by millions of dollars, and ancillary log errors dropped by 95%. Continuum formed in 1997 as a partnership of three New York-based institutions, Beth Israel Medical Center, Roosevelt Hospital and St. Luke's Hospital. Today, the hospitals deliver care with more than 3,100 beds throughout seven major facilities in Brooklyn, Manhattan and Westchester County.
USF Health won the clinical outcomes prize for improving the preadmission testing process to Increase patient and staff satisfaction. By using Centricity Perioperative, along with a patient-focused web-based questionnaire, USF Health greatly decreased the number of hours nursing staff spent interviewing patients for pre-admission testing, increased the workflow efficiency of the anesthesiologists on review of pre-admission testing results, and provided patients with more online options to allow them to perform their healthcare related tasks at their own convenience. The University of South Florida founded USF Health as the USF Medical Center in 1965 but changed its name to reflect a collaborative focus on the full spectrum of health.
The operational outcomes honor went to Northridge Hospital Medical Center for its use of Centricity Perioperative to improve inventory control while maintaining and monitoring par levels. By using the picklist and consumption interfaces in Centricity Perioperative in conjunction with Centricity Clinical Gateway software, Northridge Hospital Medical Center was able to decrement the inventory items when cases were picked. This was made possible by having nurses in the OR follow the documentation in the consumption screen of Centricity Perioperative. Northridge Hospital Medical Center is a 411-bed not-for-profit hospital, serving California's valley region for 55 years.
GE Healthcare named University of Tennessee Medical Center (Knoxville, Tenn.), University of Michigan Medical Center (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and AnMed Health Medical Center (Anderson, S.C.) as 2011 award runners up in the categories of financial, clinical and operational outcomes, respectively.
