GE appoints Daniel Carreño President and CEO for Spain and Portugal

September 21, 2011

Madrid, Spain, 16 September, 2011 - GE (General Electric) is pleased to announce the appointment of Daniel Carreño as President and CEO of GE for Spain and Portugal, effective 1 October 2011. Carreño is currently President of GE Healthcare Iberia.

In his new position, Carreño will be responsible for leading incremental growth across the Iberian region, furthering the business strategy implemented by his predecessor, Rafael Díaz-Granados. The two have been working side by side in recent months to guarantee a smooth, seamless transition.

Together with the business leadership teams in Spain and Portugal, Carreño will develop long-term business strategies, define new growth opportunities in the region as well as implement the appropriate operating procedures to track progress. Also, he will lead client strategies, customer programs and diverse initiatives to drive the profitability and growth for GE's businesses in Iberia.

With regard to his appointment, Daniel Carreño said: "GE will continue to work with Spain and Portugal on their biggest challenges, a commitment that we have had since operating in the region in the 1950s. Our advanced technology and global leadership in areas such as energy, water and healthcare will contribute against an unfavourable economic environment like the present one." He added: "We want to walk hand in hand with those Iberian companies that are going through globalization processes, like in the new infrastructures field."

Carreño has been President of GE Healthcare Iberia since 2008. In this role, he has demonstrated excellent management skills and business vision. Carreño has successfully consolidated GE's healthcare business as one of the main providers for the Spanish and Portuguese national health systems, able to deliver new ways to predict, detect report, treat and monitor disease. The strategy implemented by Daniel has also generated new business areas and boosted market share, as well as fostering long-term partnerships in both the public and private sectors.

Following a successful period as President of GE Spain & Portugal, Rafael has been promoted to Latin America Growth Leader based in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Rafael stated: "While I am delighted with my new challenge, I am even more excited knowing that Daniel will be leading the Iberian team moving forward. In his role as President of GE Healthcare, Daniel has shown outstanding strategic vision, created the most integrated team in Europe, and delivered 10 consecutive quarters of growth for our shareholders. Spain and Portugal are in great hands."

Last November, the Company established the Global Growth & Operations organization (GGO) to speed up GE's efforts to meet customer needs in international markets, which now account for over 50% of global revenues- growing by 15% year on year over the past decade. GE expects the Company's international operations (outside the US) to account for 60% going forward.

According to Nani Beccalli-Falco, president and CEO of GE Europe & North Asia, Carreño's appointment is part of GE's global growth strategy through which GE and its local structures will become much more operationally focused.

Nani Beccalli-Falco said: "Accelerating GE's growth depends on building an organization which is faster and more agile, fit for purpose in the rapidly changing global market- putting resources and decision making capability closer to our customers. Daniel is the right person to take Iberia successfully to the next stage."

GE has been present in Spain since the 1950s and currently has some 2,700 employees and 27 work sites across Iberia, some of them acting as operating headquarters for the entire EMEA region. The Company sees the Iberian market as a key growth area for all its businesses with a strong presence in energy, water, healthcare technologies, media and aviation.
