Oil & Gas Technologies Deliver Higher Efficiency, Lower Cost and Reduced Carbon Footprint Benefits for Operators
FLORENCE, ITALY---February 1, 2011---GE Oil & Gas is pleased to announce that both its Integrated CO2 Compressor & Pump System and FuelEx™ Natural Gas Liquids (NGL) Recovery System technologies have been GE ecomagination qualified, reflecting GE's commitment to developing customer focused solutions with lower environmental impacts. To date, 10 GE Oil & Gas products have been GE ecomagination qualified.
John Lammas, vice president---engineering, GE Oil & Gas said, "Reliable innovation is the cornerstone of the GE Oil & Gas product portfolio. We are delighted to extend our GE ecomagination portfolio with the qualification of the CO2 Compressor and Pump and FuelEx™ NGL Recovery systems. Both products demonstrate our ability to consistently tackle the oil and gas industry's toughest environmental and efficiency challenges."
Integrated CO2 Compressor & Pump System Delivers Power Savings and Reduces Emissions
With the development cost of incremental oil and gas reserves becoming more prohibitive, operators are focused on carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) and enhanced oil recovery (EOR) processes through CO2 re-injection.
GE Oil & Gas' integrated CO2 Compressor & Pump System can reduce annual electricity consumption by 6 percent (6,000 MWh) for ~$400,000 savings when used in CCS, or by 16 percent (15,000 MWh) for ~$1 million savings when used in EOR, compared to traditional compressor trains, at a flow rate of 60,000 m3/hr, with an electricity price of $0.07 k/Wh. In environmental terms, the integrated system can avoid 3,800 metric tons of CO2 emissions (~1,900 European cars) when used for CCS, or 9,000 metric tons (~4,700 EU cars) when used for EOR.
Integral to the system, GE Oil & Gas' new DDHF CO2 Pump is an optimized solution enabling customers to realize significant power savings, as well as highly flexible performance upgrades. Based on GE's proven hydraulic design, the enhanced DDHF is a multistage centrifugal pump specially re-engineered for CO2 pumping and EOR, delivering 540 bar discharge pressure---the highest ever provided by a centrifugal pump.
FuelEx™ NGL Recovery System Unlocks Commercial Value, Improves Performance and Reduces CO2 Emissions
In applications where raw natural gas is used for fuelling gas turbines, NGLs are burned together with methane, resulting in lost revenues from this valuable product. The presence of NGL in fuel can cause hot gas path parts to degrade more rapidly and produce higher CO2 emissions, posing serious challenges in complying with environmental regulations.
The GE OIL & Gas FuelEx™ NGL Recovery System is a unique proprietary solution to these challenges, enabling the fuelling of gas turbines by separating heavier hydrocarbons from fuel gas to deliver a predominantly methane-based gas turbine fuel, while reducing CO2 emissions. Applications include turbocompressor transportation pipeline & gas gathering, on- and offshore upstream plants, reinjection plants and gas-oil separation plants.
With the GE Oil & Gas FuelEx™ NGL Recovery System, NGL separation makes available a stream of clean gas for fuelling the gas turbine while the separated NGLs are returned to the pipeline or to a storage facility. The FuelEx system recovers NGLs by controlling the dew point, causing the NGLs to condense from the gaseous phase.
As an example, with the use of FuelEx in a typical gas pipeline with a rich gas fuel containing 8-10 percent of NGL, an additional 500-700 kg per hour of NGLs could be recovered for each 25-MW gas turbine used along the pipeline. FuelEx™ enables commercialization of valuable NGL streams and creates a cleaner fuel gas that extends turbine parts life and reduces exhaust CO2 by up to 3 percent.
GE ecomagination
GE's ecomagination Product Review (EPR) process provides a third-party verification of claims, quantifying operating and environmental performance benefits that accrue to GE's customers by using ecomagination products relative to baselines such as competitors' best products, the installed base of products and regulatory standards. These ecomagination claims can be found in GE's printed materials and advertisements, and on the web at www.ge.com/ecomagination. Ecomagination products are re-qualified regularly to help ensure that claims remain accurate.
