Expanding Access to Healthcare to millions of Indonesians
At GE, we base everything we do around four ways we can change the world.
Today Indonesia accounts for 30% of GE Healthcare’s business in Southeast Asia. It’s become the largest business for us in Southeast Asia, with the greatest opportunities for innovative healthcare solutions to meet the increased demands of the growing healthcare system.
In 2013, our business in Indonesia saw double digit growth versus the previous year. In particular, we saw major growth in our MR, CT and Ultrasound businesses. Since 2010, our workforce in Indonesia has grown more than double in just four years; Healthcare has the largest team in Indonesia of all the GE businesses located in the country.
In the past, the source of inspiration for these affordable innovations has come from regions like China and India. Today, we’re looking at Indonesia as the inspiration for the latest innovations for affordable healthcare. For example, we’re in development of low-cost maternal & infant care devices specifically designed for the primary care market and created with the Indonesia user in mind. Indonesia users have become the inspiration for the next generation of our products. We are also committed to build the capacity of healthcare professionals in Indonesia. In 2014 we trained around 2,000 healthcare professionals as part of ASEAN Healthcare Learning Institute (AHLI).
