With 60% of the global population, 45% of the world’s electricity consumption, and 20% of the global installed base, not only is the Asia region one of the largest in the world, it’s also growing quickly. With this growth comes an increased need for more power—and we’re happy to help. To date, we have an installed base in the region of over 1,070 gas turbines and 187 CSA units. And when it comes to services and repairs in Asia, GE Gas Power has 21 power plant construction sites, 8 O&M sites, 6 repair shops, 5 joint ventures, and world-class field services to help support customers on the ground.

"The FieldCore team accomplished this replacement with no safety or quality issues thanks to a deep understanding of the fleet and what was required to undergo routine maintenance, and innovative thinking toward the manpower scheduling."
Nava Nakorn Electricity Generating Company (NNEG), now known as the Nonthaburi – RATCH Group Public Company Limited (RATCH) is a small power producer which has been operating since 2013. There are currently eight LM6000s that are in operation to provide electricity as well as steam to industrial users in the Nava Nakorn Industrial Zone in the Pathum Thani province, Thailand.
At an outage recently at the Nava Nakorn Industrial Zone, FieldCore was commissioned to perform the scheduled outage for a VSV Bushing replacement (SB213) which happens after 12,000 firing hours. With careful planning of the manpower schedule and the usage of a quality checklist, the team achieved a global first – completing the outage in just 14 hours instead of the standard 24 hours. As a result, the customer was back up and running in record time.
Malaysian homes powered
"While the pandemic was a challenging time for everyone, we still had to ensure continued power capacity and system reliability to meet demand. Thanks to GE and the strong teamwork and expertise of the engineering teams, we are seeing increased operation efficiencies and reduced outage downtime. We look forward to further collaboration with GE and the other stakeholders to help move Malaysia’s energy transition forward."
Managing Director, SPG
Transitioning to a sustainable energy future is foundational for Malaysia’s continued economic growth, and critical to these goals will be the Sultan Ibrahim Power Plant that provides reliable, cost-efficient and clean power for up to three million homes.
The global pandemic has disrupted the energy generation sector, and has forced the adoption of new ways of working. Nonetheless, consumers and businesses still demand and expect steady uninterrupted power, and core plant operations of regular maintenance and outage troubleshooting must continue unabated.
During the pandemic lockdowns, GE’s dedicated commitment to customers meant the Sultan Ibrahim Power Plant and the GE engineering teams were in constant contact to cross share data and collaborate quickly to enable faster, more complete resolutions to any potential or encountered outages.
GE’s proven record in both engineering excellence and digital solutions such as remote monitoring and predictive maintenance, also helped to ensure reduction in unplanned downtime and boosted operational efficiency for the Sultan Ibrahim Power Plant. Read more.
