On August 17, 2016, GE Gas Power signed a multi-year agreement with Central Puerto S.A., a power generation company, to enhance its combined-cycle power plant in Buenos Aires, Argentina—utilizing GE’s digital plant solutions to improve reliability and efficiency.

Central Puerto S.A. has worked with GE for the past two decades, and this agreement will support the plant for an additional nine years. Furthermore, it marks the beginning of GE’s software technologies as the impetus for data sourcing, allowing for actionable insights across power generation assets and fleet infrastructure.

With the future installation of GE’s 9HA.01 gas turbine, Central Puerto will be well-positioned to meet the need of the Buenos Aires community, delivering 760 megawatts (MW) of electricity in a manner that’s cost-effective and sustainable. The implementation of Predix, GE’s advanced cloud-based operating system, will support Central Puerto’s goal of providing reliability, efficiency and availability to its customers.

“With Argentina’s increasing energy demand, power plants such as Central Puerto are finding innovative ways to improve the reliability and performance of their plant operations to address the country’s needs.” said Ramon Paramio, regional general manager of GE Gas Power’s business in Latin America. “GE’s total plant solutions allow us to enhance our offerings to provide the latest digital technologies, which will help Central Puerto be better positioned to compete in a fast-growing power generation marketplace.”

Capacity is also a vital component to the overall goal of increased performance. This agreement will strengthen the local power grid, and through GE’s digital solutions suite, reduce the risk of unplanned outages, which is critical to the local infrastructure.

“This station is crucial to the reliability of the power grid in Buenos Aires, requiring that it operates at the best possible performance levels and generating the equivalent power needed to supply more than 500,000 homes in the country,” said José Luis Morea, chief strategy officer of Central Puerto.
