GE Digital's Smallworld Network Inventory's geospatial solutions help telecommunications operators manage their network from design all the way through to operations.
For almost 140 years, TDC has been connecting Danes with each other and the world and enabling growth and development in Denmark by providing reliable, critical infrastructure and digital services. TDC is determined to ensure that all of Denmark has access to the benefits of the new digital era, with high-speed connections, communication and entertainment services.
This digital future is a transformational process underpinned by the roll out of fibre and 5G. To enable this network expansion, TDC selected the Smallworld Physical Network Inventory solution. The new system supports fibre deployment by automating and simplifying the planning and design process, as well as post documentation. Data is being migrated from other legacy systems into Smallworld as part of this transformation process, consolidating all the network data into one system. Enabling access to this data across the TDC organization streamlines business processes, increases efficiencies and drives their network infrastructure roll-out.
Denmark’s largest fiber operator, Norlys, through GE Digital’s partner, Smallworld Norway, has selected Smallworld Physical Network Inventory solution as a joint system for documentation of its consolidated fiber network. This comes as a result of the merger between Eniig and Stofa in 2019.
We chose Smallworld because they met our requirements for functionality, quality and expertise. We have the customer in focus, which is why we want to further strengthen our new common routines, for the benefit of both the development and management of all our entire infrastructure. Here, Smallworld will become an essential tool for us.

Cloud deployments and cloud native - perhaps the most over-used and frequently misunderstood terms in use today. In the context of GE Digital’s Smallworld solutions the cloud is used in two ways.
First, the existing Smallworld solutions can be deployed into a public cloud provisioned infrastructure, such as Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure. There are no technical barriers to such deployments and several existing customers have been operating in public cloud infrastructure for several years now with proven scalability and reliability.
Second, our web-based and integration server products are increasingly adopting cloud native technologies, such as Kubernetes, Docker and node.js to benefit from low-cost cloud deployments.

Most people today accept messaging as a common way of communicating and are increasingly interacting with chat bots rather than real people. In fact, research shows 85% of customer interaction will be handled without human agents by 2021. GE Digital has been researching how to use chat bot technology for geospatial applications. Based on off the shelf technology, we have developed the capability to embed pole inspection processes into WhatsApp. This provides a very different user experience to the traditional forms-based approach, and one that could be offered to the public at large rather than limited to specialist teams for example. While pole inspection is a simple process there are lots of potential workflows that could be automated with this approach.
