Analysis Overview

The GE Digital APM Analysis module allows you to visualize and analyze data from sensors on assets. You can explore the time series data related to selected assets, and investigate potential issues with the assets.

Use Analysis to select assets in the Context Browser to investigate, access data in an existing view or template, and create ad hoc analysis views where you can select the assets and tags to appear for analysis. Analyzing this data can help diagnose the root cause of an alert, respond to a customer query about asset performance, or find issues before they become problematic.

You can filter the asset hierarchy to narrow options for selection. See Filter the Context Browser for more information.

You can search the asset hierarchy to rapidly find an asset of interest. See Search the Context Browser for more information.

You can add and compare an asset context from the Analysis Tag Tree Panel. See Add and Remove Multiple Assets in Analysis for more information

You can create a time series analysis view or an event data analysis view using the ad hoc selections. The time series analysis view uses time series data for the asset context you select. The event data analysis view uses time series data within event frames for the asset context you select. Both the time series analysis and event data analysis views can be saved as templates.

Note: You can also perform analysis related to Operations Performance Monitoring (OPM). For more information on these analyses, refer to the https://www.ge.com/digital/documentation/opm/. The OPM services are available subject to subscription by tenant.

Analysis Templates can be associated with Alerts to provide visualization of the information related to the alert.

The Tag Tree Panel is an integral part of chart creation, and includes panes for:
  • Tag Tree Browser. The Tag Tree Browser includes the Tag Browser section where you can interact with tags, asset attributes, and tag expressions. You can add additional assets and their tags in the Tag Browser section. A Search box allows you to search for any tags included in the asset context on the pane. The Tag Browser section contains the tag section, which contains the information regarding the charts that are plotted in the template and all the tags associated with the charts in the template. Some charts use pairs of tags where the actions are based on the pairs rather than the individual tags. You cannot drag tags in the Plotted Tags list to the charts in the view. You can drag tags in the Tag Tree Browser to a chart.
  • Tag Expressions. The Tag Expressions pane allows you to create and update tag expressions that are then added to the Tag Tree Browser for the asset context. Tag expressions are simple calculations using assets and tags, which can be dragged to a chart from either the Tag Expression pane or the Tag Tree Browser. Tag expressions can include conditions, existing tag expressions, and functions. Tag expression can be filtered and muted like any other tag.
  • Tag Filters. Plotted Tags appear and can be filtered in the Tag Filters pane. Filtering for the plotted tags can be inverted.
  • Search Browser. The Search Browser pane allows you to search throughout the enterprise for specific tags using modifiers. Modifiers include the tag name, source key, tags in the current asset context, tag classification name, and tag attribute value. You can drag tags in the Search Browser to a chart.
The following definitions are helpful for understanding the Analysis module:
Analysis Chart
Collection of tags, tag attributes, and tag expressions that are associated with a chart within the Analysis template.
Alert Analysis Chart View
Chart view generated using an analysis template and the alert information to provide data visualization for an alert. Alerts require an alert template to determine the analysis chart views it uses or makes available for use.
Analysis Template
Time series data for plotted tags associated with a specific asset, group of assets, or asset classifications appear. You can create an analysis template for use in an alert template.
Analysis templates automatically populate charts with alert, asset, and time range information.
Analysis templates can define a date range and data resolution for a view, or the default date range and data resolution configured to appear in an alert. The default time range is 15 days prior to the present.
An analysis template contains a selected asset, a context ribbon, and one or more cards.
Analysis templates can be designated to be private or public.
Analysis templates can be associated with an asset instance or an asset classification.
Ad hoc analysis views can be generated for time series analysis or event data analysis within time series.
Analysis Card
A container for one or more charts of different types.
Analysis cards allow you to add or delete charts in the card, modify the name of the card, add a card, share a card, or change the card layout.
Tag Tree Panel
Allows access to the Tag Tree Browser, Tag Expression, Tag Filters, and Search Browser.
Tag Tree Browser
Allows you to select assets and tags, search for tags to plot, view the Plotted Tag list, view tag information, and plot tags individually or in bulk.
Tag Expression
Allows you to create and share tags that contain simple calculations using available tag data. You can add conditions, add predefined functions, and embed existing tag expressions within a tag expression.
Tag Filters
Allows you to globally filter and share plotted tags to view available data within a specified range. Allows you to invert the data range to view data outside the entered range. Allows you to globally mute a filter for a specific tag.
Search Browser
Allows you to search across the enterprise for tags associated with all assets, correlated tags, and tags associated with modifiers such as UOM.
Name for a sensor or calculated time-series data. You can toggle between the GE tag alias and customer source tag name. Select a plotted tag name for the tag name and alias to appear.

About This Task

You can expand or collapse the navigation bar to accommodate analysis charts.

  • To collapse the expanded navigation bar, select at the top of the navigation bar.
The navigation bar collapses until only the module icons appear. Any analysis charts that appear adjust to fit the available space.
  • To expand the collapsed navigation bar, select at the top of the navigation bar.
The navigation bar expands for the module icons and names to appear. Any analysis charts that appear adjust to fit the available space.
