Manage Product Subscriptions

About Initial Tenant and Product Subscriptions

As a tenant administrator, after a system administrator subscribes a tenant to the product for the first time, you must complete the initial product subscription to start the provisioning of the product and its associated exported artifacts, like alert and case templates, analysis and dashboards templates and widgets, and assets.

The initial product and tenant subscription workflow consists of the following high-level steps:
  1. The product designer creates and publishes the products. This initiates an export of product artifacts.
  2. The system administrator subscribes a tenant to the product. The subscription status is Incomplete.
  3. The tenant administrator completes the tenant subscription. This completion initiates an import of the product artifacts to the tenant.
  4. A subscribed tenant user signs into the extended APM and views the upgraded product and its associated artifacts.
The workflow is shown in the following diagram:

  2. In the left navigation menu, select Product Packages.

About Updating Existing Tenants with Specific Product Versions

As a tenant administrator, (or a user with upgrade permissions), after a product is updated, published, and available for release, you can update the tenant to the new version.

The new product version may contains new versions of artifacts, and updated navigation, routing, or context browser settings.

The process for upgrading an existing tenant to a new product version includes the following high-level steps.

  1. The product designer publishes a new version of a product and tags it as a release version. This initiates an export of the product artifacts.
  2. The tenant administrator selects a new product version and then selects a profile. This initiates an import of the product artifacts to the tenant.
  3. The tenant is now subscribed to the product.
  4. The tenant administrator determines if the import was successful during the upgrade:
    • If the import was successful:
      1. Selects any status hyperlinks in the package list table to review artifacts that were skipped during import.
      2. If there are no hyperlinks in the package list table, all packages were successfully imported.
    • If the import was not successful:
      1. Selects any status hyperlinks in the package list table to review failure details.
      2. Reapply the product version to try to reimport product artifacts successfully.
The workflow is shown in the following diagram:

Update an Existing Tenant with a New Product or a Specific Product Version

As a subscribed tenant administrator, you can determine which product version is the current version, update the tenant with a new or prior version, and select the profile for the product version.

    • If no profiles are associated with this product, the Subscription Summary page appears, displaying the status of the update job(s). When the subscription is complete, the status of each package that was updated appears in the table. In this scenario, skip the following step, and proceed to step 5.

  5. Depending on the status of the update job(s), choose one of the following:
    • If the subscription failed:
      1. Select the Failed link to view details about the failure, including a list of artifacts that were not imported.
      2. Attempt to resolve the causes of the failure, and then attempt to subscribe again.
    • If a package upgrade was completed, but some artifacts or profile variables were skipped during the upgrade, select the Complete link to view a list of the artifacts or profile variables that were skipped.

Results

  • When you subscribe to a new product, the Left Navigation configuration of the new product is implemented. Existing Left Navigation items not included in the new product are moved to the bottom of the bar. Existing Left Navigation items that have a different name in the new product reflect the name given in the new product.
  • When you subscribe to a new product, the content items (for example, alerts, case templates, and analysis templates) created in the existing tenant are not overwritten. Duplicate content items are skipped and detailed in the skip report.
