Candidate Privacy Notice

Introduction

This notice (Notice) describes how GE and its subsidiaries and related companies (collectively, GE) handle and protect data to which GE is provided access in connection with the recruiting process.

By making available your Candidate Data, you confirm that:

  • You have reviewed this Notice and agree that GE may Process your Candidate Data in accordance with this Notice;
  • You have provided any notices and obtained any consents needed to provide information concerning others (e.g., information about employment references); and
  • For the purposes described in this Notice, Your Candidate Data may be transferred and Processed worldwide as specified in this Notice.

GE will handle Candidate Data in accordance with this Notice, unless in conflict with stricter requirements of local law, in which case local law will prevail.

Your consent to the provisions of this Notice is required in order to continue the application process. If you do not agree, click on the “x” button in the upper right-hand corner to stop the process. Please note that if you decline to submit or make available your Candidate Data, it may affect your ability to apply for or receive an offer of employment.

This Notice does not form part of any contract of employment offered to candidates hired by GE.

Definitions

Candidate Data is identifiable information that an individual makes available to GE in connection with the job recruiting process. GE may collect Candidate Data directly from a job candidate or from third parties, for example, in connection with a background or employment check or an employment reference. Candidate Data does not include information rendered anonymous such that individuals are no longer identifiable. Candidate Data may include a variety of information, such as candidate status, work history/job data, education, compensation, employer feedback, online questionnaire results, candidate contact information, previous addresses or names, additional information provided by the candidate (e.g., a cover letter), driver’s license number (as required for certain positions), references, and criminal history (where permitted by law).

Processing refers to any action performed on Candidate Data, such as collecting, recording, organizing, storing, transferring, modifying, using, disclosing, or deleting.

Collection

You may use various methods to submit your Candidate Data to GE. These include: (a) e-mail or paper submission to GE personnel; (b) online submission to GE or to a third-party acting on behalf of GE; and/or (c) via a GE employment application.

GE may periodically collect further information with your consent or in accordance with applicable laws. For example, GE may collect your feedback and opinions (e.g., surveys) for business purposes, such as improving processes. You may respond to these surveys voluntarily or may elect not to respond and will not suffer reprisals for your decision. This Notice will be applicable to any further information collected, including any responses to such surveys.

In addition to collecting data directly from you, GE may collect Candidate Data from third parties, for example, in connection with a background or employment check and/or an employment reference.

Processing

GE Processes Candidate Data for legitimate human resources and business management purposes. These include identifying and/or evaluating candidates for GE positions; making a decision about whether a candidate should be hired; maintaining appropriate record-keeping related to hiring practices; analyzing the hiring process and outcomes; and conducting background investigations, where permitted by law. In addition, Candidate Data may be used for compliance with corporate governance and legal and regulatory requirements. If a candidate is hired, the information may be used in connection with his/her employment.

In addition to using Candidate Data for the position for which you have applied, GE may retain your Candidate Data for a reasonable period to consider you for other positions that may be of interest to you.

If GE Processes Candidate Data for other purposes not consistent with this Notice, GE will ensure you are informed of the new purposes and have the opportunity to provide consent where required by law.

Sharing and/or Transferring

GE may transfer Candidate Data to selected external third party suppliers to perform certain services on its behalf. Such third party suppliers will have access to Candidate Data solely for the purposes of performing the services specified in the applicable service contract, and GE will require the suppliers to undertake security measures consistent with the protection specified in this Notice. In addition, GE may be required to disclose certain Candidate Data to other third parties (1) as a matter of law; (2) to protect GE’s legal rights; or (3) in an emergency where the health or security of a Candidate is endangered. GE may Process Candidate Data globally as needed for the purposes described in this Notice.

Sensitive Candidate Data

GE generally does not request or require sensitive Candidate Data, such as dataconcerning religion, health, sexual orientation, or political affiliation in connection with recruiting. To the limited extent GE needs to collect and Process sensitive Candidate Data (such as data concerning trade union membership or criminal records), GE will ensure that the candidate is informed of such collection and processing and, where required by law, will obtain the candidate’s consent. If you have a disability and would like GE to consider any accommodation, you may provide that information during the recruiting process.

To the extent you provide any sensitive Candidate Data to GE, you consent to GE’s Processing of such data in accordance with this Notice.

Security and Confidentiality

GE employs technical and organizational measures designed to ensure the integrity, confidentiality, security and availability of Candidate Data. GE limits access to internal systems that hold Candidate Data to individuals who need such access for a legitimate business purpose.

Candidate Rights

You may exercise the following rights in relation to your Candidate Data:

Access: GE will provide you access to your Candidate Data that GE holds as required by law in your home country, regardless of the location of the Candidate Data Processing. If access is denied, the reason for the denial will be communicated to you.

Correction and Deletion: You may request correction or deletion of your Candidate Data, except where retention is required by your contractual relationship with GE, in the context of a legal dispute or other legal retention requirement, or as otherwise required by law. If correction or deletion is denied, the reason for the denial will be communicated to you.

Automated Decisions: Except in limited circumstances (e.g., the screening via computer or some open positions), GE does not make automated decisions to evaluate individuals or for other purposes. If automated decisions are made, you will be given an opportunity to express your views on the automated decision in question.

Objection: If you believe that your Candidate Data has been Processed in violation of this Notice, you may report the concern using the options below.

In addition, you may open a ticket to withdraw your consent to the Processing of your Candidate Data, and you may register inquiries, complaints and/or objections concerning the Processing of your data, at EmpDataPvcy@corporate.ge.com or by fax at +1-203-373-2181. The processes described in this Notice supplement any other remedies and dispute resolution processes provided by GE and/or available under applicable law.

Direct Marketing

GE will not offer you any products or services for personal or familial consumption (“direct marketing”) or provide Candidate Data to third parties for direct marketing without your consent. These restrictions apply only to Candidate Data obtained in the context of your applying for a position with GE. They do not apply to contact or other personal data obtained in the context of any other relationship with GE, including consumer or customer relationships.

Changes to this Notice
