GE Power in Australia

Advanced technologies to supply sustainable power

Our history of powering Australia dates back to 1902, when GE installed an electric motor to open the Pyrmont Bridge over Sydney’s Darling Harbour. Today, we continue to advance technology to ensure a reliable and more sustainable supply of power.

Leading the way in sustainable power generation

Our diverse portfolio of power generation products and services covers all areas of the energy sector, including coal, oil, natural gas, wind and other renewable resources.

Our focus on cleaner power with lower emissions is especially important for Australia, where CO2 emissions per capita are amongst the highest in the world. In Mumbida WA, we’re helping Verve Energy harness the wind to power the equivalent of 50,000 homes every year with 22 of GE’s 2.5MW wind turbines. Boco Rock wind farm, near Cooma NSW, is presently under construction, and will consist of 67 of GE’s 1.6 and 1.7MW wind turbines. GE has the world’s second largest fleet of wind turbines, and offers market leading reliability and efficiency of conversion of wind power into electricity.

Distributed Power

GE Power’s Distributed Power portfolio of innovative solutions gives businesses and communities the ability to generate reliable and efficient power at or near the point of use, at anytime—on the grid or off it. Our product portfolio features aeroderivative gas turbines, Jenbacher gas engines, and Waukesha gas engines ranging from 120 kW-100 MW.

Distributed Power provides a wide range of customers from industrial businesses and developing communities to government agencies managing disaster relief and other emergency power situations— with the ability to generate reliable, sustainable power whenever and wherever it is needed.
