Dental hybrid manufacturing – the combination of additive and subtractive manufacturing – was the focus for a recent event held for 20 dental customers at the GE Additive Customer Experience Center in Munich, in conjunction with technology partners Datron and Follow Me!

Ideally suited to the manufacture of dental implant superstructures and telescopic crowns, this efficient and cost-effective CAD/CAM-based process offers users a potential saving of up to 50% cost saving, compared to purely subtractive production techniques.

Other benefits include:

  • Complete design freedom
  • Maximum use of resources and materials
  • High accuracy and precision
  • Increased time savings

The post-milling allowance, the slicing file for additive manufacturing on the GE Additive Concept Laser Mlab 200R and the post-milling process on the DATRON D5 are generated by the new all-in-one CAM software, hyperDENT® Hybrid module.

By replicating the entire dental manufacturing hybrid workflow at the CEC in Munich, all process steps could be experienced by the participants up close and live.  And, of course, information on conventional additive and milling technologies within the dental space were also provided.

The event was a resounding success with solid feedback from the attendees;

“GE Additive, Follow Me and Datron have worked together effectively to develop the first tangible workflow for hybrid manufacturing. This requires a lot of know-how in different disciplines, which was demonstrated during the event. I’d recommend the event to anyone wanting to get closer to the topic or develop their understanding further.” Andreas Nusser, Erhardt Dentaltechnik GmbH.

A great, welcoming atmosphere and a very informative, helpful event. It helped me get better acquainted with hybrid manufacturing. All in all, a very successful eventSteven Bachmann, FKM Sintertechnik GmbH

Thank you for a great day. For me, it was really a great introduction to the topic, with the relevant experts, in a great environment.” Markus Borgschulte, attendee

Thanks for a very successful event. Apart from the great setting, it was very valuable from a content and learning perspective – and advances our knowledge of hybrid manufacturing further.Marco Scheffel, Henkel Modellbau GmbH
