To best serve our global GE business customers, we will create and sustain a working environment at the Global Research Center that cultivates awareness of and respect for differences, and provides support for everyone.
Diversity is something we live and breathe each and every day at GE Global Research -- over 40 countries are represented in our mix of individuals. We come from different walks of life, and speak countless languages. Yet we have one calling: technology. Together, we push it to the edge.
We proactively address diversity. We established a Diversity Resources Council (DRC) to champion the special opportunities available to GE Global Research employees. The DRC and its subcommittees represent a cross section of the population and serve as a common ground to discuss concerns, challenges, best practices, action plans and issues that relate to diversity. The initiatives of the DRC encompass activities that involve training and support for all GE Global Research employees. Some examples of those activities include:
- Diversity Awareness Training: To increase respect among people, promote understanding of their differences and similarities, decrease judgmental behavior, and increase acceptance and flexibility.
- High-Performance Team Training: To introduce goal and role definition, and provide tools that can improve the dynamics of our diverse teams.
- Mentoring Program: To standardize a formal mentoring program, drawing from best practices at GE Global Research and at other GE businesses.
- Communication of Support Systems: To increase the accessibility of organizations and services at GE Global Research and in our community.
- Workplace Environment Focus Groups: To understand issues and identify ways to enhance the GE Global Research environment for all employees.
Throughout the course of your working experience here at GE Global Research, you will also have the exciting opportunity to join various network groups active at the Center. The following are examples of such organizations:
Women's Network- The Women's
Network (WN) is a voluntary organization with the mission of fostering professional women's development to help grow, attract and retain successful women throughout GE. Development is focused on leadership, advancement and career-broadening opportunities through a variety of tools, including information, education and networking with other women to learn best practices.
- The equation is simple: for GE women, the WN offers professional development and career growth; for GE, the Network promises to put more women in key leadership roles.
African-American Forum- The African-American Forum seeks to strengthen the company's links with the African-American community. This focus is carried out through community programs such as holiday food drives, sponsoring and serving holiday dinners for the homeless, UNCF telethons, walk-a-thons, assistance to Habitat for Humanity projects, and numerous other projects in the neighborhoods where employees live and work. Community exposure supports recruitment through direct involvement and enhances GE's image as an employer that values cultural diversity.
- The AAF in action is improving itself, meeting other GE employees from similar cultures with similar experiences and challenges, a chance to learn from others through their mistakes and successes, obtaining knowledge about GE and how they can contribute and move up in the company. The tools utilized to accomplish this are mentors, publications, seminars, effective networking, social or community activities, and informal career counseling.
Asian/Pacific-American Forum- The Asian/Pacific-American
Forum is a voluntary organization and was established to provide a career development and support network for APAF professionals within GE. The APAF's mission is to provide a self-help organization that will leverage the professional and cultural similarities among Asian/Pacific-American employees to enhance their career development and GE's competitive edge in the global market.
