The mission of the Micro and Nano Structures Organization is to apply frontier research knowledge and engineering techniques to synthesize, manipulate, and modify materials to create novel electronic devices, photonic devices, integrated structures and machines. We make the small, smart, and advanced components that enable, protect, control, simplify, and revolutionize GE's systems. Scientists in these labs are dedicated to transforming GE products by making them smarter, more compact, more efficient and more agile to expand their usage to innovative breakthrough applications. Thanks to novel semiconductor materials such as silicon carbide and gallium nitride, GE researchers are able to make harsh environment sensors, power devices, MEMS devices and many more components that are vital to the GE businesses. Our knowledge in packaging and electronic materials has enabled breakthroughs in such technologies as organic LEDs, photonics, novel thermal management materials and MEMS. In addition, our expertise in thin film and nanoscale semiconductor devices, flexible electronics and functional thin film coatings is transforming the products made by GE's Healthcare, Industrial and Infrastructure businesses. Finally, Micro and Nano Structure's researchers bring our knowledge of sensors, mixed signal electronics and materials to open new frontiers in wireless sensors, self-powered sensors and nano-electronics. A 25,000 square foot Clean Room, which is managed by the group, is the hub used to develop, prototype and provide limited production of new micro and nano structure devices. Our Labs
