Ultrasound & Biomedical Lab

Ultrasound Pioneers

The Ultrasound & Biomedical Lab is considered one of the premier labs in medical ultrasound, driving revolutionary breakthroughs that are transforming the medical field.

The Ultrasound & Biomedical Lab is considered one of the premier industrial labs in medical ultrasound, developing state-of-the-art technologies in this exciting field. The Lab is made up of a dedicated team of engineers and scientists, with expertise in all aspects of ultrasound imaging, including:

  • System architecture
  • Transductions
  • Signal and image processing.

The Lab’s current research activities are focused on volume ultrasound, ultrasonic image & signal processing and miniaturization. Researchers in the Lab are also exploring pioneering technologies in ultrasound for other novel applications as well.

Researchers conduct their work in four fully equipped labs that are dedicated to ultrasound research programs. They also have full access to diverse technology expertise across GE’s four Global Research sites. The team has successfully transitioned many pioneering technologies into products that have helped shaped the future of diagnostic ultrasound industry, beginning with the LOGIQ 700 in 1993.

The lab has close collaboration with leading clinical research sites as well. These collaborations have focused in the areas of elastography, vibroacoustography, processing of echo signals from contrast agents, highly miniaturized systems, fusion of X-Ray mammography and ultrasound and 3D visualization of lesion vascularization. These efforts address a diversity of clinical needs.
