Overview

Aggregates and cement are vital raw materials with which the modern world is built. For more than 25 years, GE has helped businesses move untold tons of the cement and aggregates that help build America.

Industry statistics show that more than 32,000 gravity and 3,700 pressure differential railcars serve the aggregate market today. Rail accounts for more than 50 percent of shipments from plants to distribution terminals and has continued to gain market share.

Gravity cars leased by GE carry a number of commodities including cement, sand and roofing granules. Cement consumption continues to rise and is expected to grow by 2.6 percent in 2005. At GE, we have established ourselves as a committed railcar supplier with more than 6,000 assets and 500 new cars in the pipeline.
