GE has put more than 15,000 GE locomotive engines on the world’s rails — including our breakthrough Evolution™ Series, which reduces emissions by 40 percent. We also offer maintenance, repair and upgrade services, signaling and communications systems, and web-enabled tools to track security and progress.
GE’s Transportation Web SiteGE’s Trip Optimizer, a product of ecomagination, automatically controls a locomotive’s throttle, helping keep trains on schedule while minimizing fuel use. If every train in North America used Trip Optimizer it would save approximately 630 million gallons of fuel per year, the equivalent of eliminating more than one million cars from the road.
The energy dissipated in braking a 207-ton locomotive during the course of one year is enough to power over 8,900 average US households for a year. GE’s Evolution Hybrid Locomotive is designed to capture that energy and use it to produce more horsepower while reducing emissions and conserving fuel.
Scientists at GE’s Global Research Center are continuously working to find cleaner, more efficient sources of energy. See how GE technology is changing how we power our roads, railways, waterways and beyond.
See how GE's RailEdge Movement Planner acts like air traffic control for railroads, saving millions of dollars every year.
