In April 2004, GE completed the acquisition of Amersham plc, a world-leader in diagnostic imaging agents and life sciences, which will transform GE Healthcare into the world's most comprehensive medical diagnostics company.

The business’ global headquarters is in Little Chalfont, England, the only GE global business headquarters outside the United States. Other major European centers include Buc, France and Helsinki, Finland.

GE Healthcare started its operation in Poland in 1997 as a branch office of a French mother company. In 2002 the name was change into GE Medical Systems Poland Ltd. and then into GE Healthcare. The Polish branch conducts sales of medical equipment to healthcare units and offers maintenance services.

One of the breakthrough solutions of GE Healthcare - 64-channel LightSpeed VCT – was implemented in the Warsaw-based Medical Military Institute (WIM) in June 2005. This CT scanner enables heart’s imaging in five seconds and the whole body’s – in ten seconds. In the moment of the scanner’s implementation in the Institute it was the only tomograph of this type in the Central and Eastern Europe and one of the first in the world.
