How we overcome the challenge:
Through its relationship with Arik Air, GE’s aviation business assisted in managing the negative impact of the global recession, by extending its loan repayments in appreciation of the difficulty the recession posed on thriving businesses. “We have a formidable partnership with GE and their steadfast support gives us the edge,” says Arik Air MD and Executive Vice-President Chris Ndulue.
Solution’s impact on Nigeria:
GE Aviation’s long-standing partnership with Arik Air has fast tracked its expansion into a leading African airline company. This has enabled Arik Air to contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth and cement its role as an enabler of regional and international travel connectivity between Africa and the world.
Arik Air:
Arik Air is a privately-owned Nigerian airline company, launched in 2006 with a vision to deliver a new standard in aviation. It is the brainchild of Nigerian businessman Sir JIA Arumemi-Johnson, who believed that growth and success in the industry can be realised by increasing efficiency and service quality. Today five years on, Arik Air is known for its excellent customer service and efficient operations. Its current focus is strengthening its systems and expanding its Africa footprint.
Arik Air’s challenge:
Arik Air’s pursuit for growth and expansion was hindered by a lack of access to funding for its infrastructure development as well as maintaining their end-payments for engines, services and spare parts which were negatively impacted by the global recession.
