LOUISVILLE, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 18, 2003-- New Survey Finds Cooking Misconceptions and Holiday Meal Pressures Keep 63% of Americans In The Kitchen for More Than Half of Their Holiday The old adage Home for the Holidays has a bit of a different ring according to the results of a national survey released today by GE.
For the majority of people, the holidays mean spending more time in the kitchen creating the perfect holiday meal than time spent with family and friends. According to the survey, 63 percent of Americans are spending more than 50 percent of their holiday time preparing the meal - and 27 percent are clocking in more than 75 percent of their time tied to the kitchen.
The consumer survey, designed to expose the ups and downs associated with the preparation of the traditional holiday meal, also uncovered that Americans may only have themselves to blame for their time in the kitchen holiday. More than 60 percent of men and women were unable to identify how long a traditional 22-lb turkey would take to cook, leaving them exposed to a potentially disastrous holiday meal.
The GE holiday cooking survey points out that misconceptions about holiday cooking time is a big contributor to this dilemma, said Maureen Petrosky, food and wine correspondent for CNN. While spending time with guests is the goal among holiday dinner hosts, they often find themselves chained to the kitchen in order to prepare that delicious meal. With some kitchen know-how and the right tools, any holiday chef can get out of the kitchen and still have the perfect meal.
The Proof is in the Pudding
GE Consumer Products has the solution.
The GE Profile oven with Trivection technology combines thermal, convection, and microwave technologies to produce delicious results, up to five times faster than traditional ovens. With Trivection technology, that hefty 22-lb turkey will take just two hours to roast, versus the traditional four to six hours.
Trivection technology makes good cooks even better. By automatically converting traditional recipe temperatures, the oven will apply the right combination of energies to optimize cooking performance. Not only can consumers use their traditional recipes, but their traditional cookware will work, as well.
The new GE Profile Oven with Trivection technology was designed to complement today's busy lifestyle and by offering quality food and time savings all in one, said Leanne Dugan, GM - Cooking Products, GE Consumer Products.
Trivection puts home back in the holidays this year by getting the cook out of the kitchen faster, for more valuable time with family and friends.
GE Profile ovens with Trivection technology allow consumers to roast a turkey in half the time, bake breads in a third of the time and side dishes in a quarter of the time - freeing their schedules to spend more quality moments with family and friends. For time-conscious Americans, Trivection technology makes it easy to prepare home cooked meals any time of the year so that every meal can resemble a holiday meal.
The GE Profile Ovens with Trivection Technology are available now for an estimated retail price of $2349 - $2699 for the single wall oven and $3699 - $4149 for the double wall oven.
