MUNICH--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 20, 2003--Is there an increased danger of earthquakes due to ultra deep mining or other geological impacts that are already measurable or foreseeable today?
In order to broaden opinion and exchange experts' views, GE Frankona Reinsurance will host a Symposium on Tuesday, November 4, 2003, at 4.00 p.m. at the Michelangelo Hotel in Johannesburg.
The event will provide the opportunity to share insight into this topic with experts from the mining industry as well as members of the Council of Geosciences in South Africa. The organizers expect about 80 participants for the Symposium and would be delighted to welcome representatives of the media at this event.
A highlight of the event will be an address by Mr. Koos Bosman on Seismic hazard in mines - current knowledge and implications for mining at ultra depth. Mr. Bosman is co-founder and managing director of Open House Management Solutions (Pty) Ltd. He has been in the mining industry since 1987.
GE Frankona wants to share Mr. Bosman's findings as well as the research and results of the Council of Geosciences in South Africa with their clients in the region (insurers, brokers and loss adjusters) to help them face future challenges in this area.
