Supporting Our Troops

People are GE’s greatest asset, and the nation’s greatest asset. We support, honor, and respect all those who devote themselves to serving our nation. Our support of these valiant men and women begins before their deployment and extends beyond their return.

Many GE employees have served or are serving in the military. We have the freedom to pursue the opportunities we do because brave people have risked their lives for our nation. We firmly believe that risking your life should not entail risking your livelihood. We are dedicated to doing what we can to make it as easy as possible to serve your nation and return to work when your service is complete.

Special Programs

Through our programs, we provide special recognition and support for our employees and their families. Operation Homefront assists GE employees and their families in preparing for upcoming military deployments, while Operation Yellow Ribbon provides a welcome home package of benefits for our military heroes returning to work at GE after extended periods of active duty.

Recruiting from the Military

In October 2007, the GE Foundation, GE's philanthropic organization, announced a two-year $1.5 million grant to Disabled American Veterans (DAV), an organization that focuses on building better lives for disabled veterans and their families. Specifically, the grant will allow the DAV Transition Service Program to be significantly expanded. The transition to civilian life can at times be confusing and difficult. This program offers free benefits, counseling and claim filing assistance to troops about to transition into civilian life, helping to ensure that they will have access to the full range of benefits they have earned through their service and sacrifice for our country.

Donations to Memorials and Museums

GE businesses have given support to the armed services through the GE Foundation. In the past few years, GE has donated more than $1.5 million to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, Medal of Honor Foundation, Air Force Memorial Foundation, Air Force Museum, Marine Corps Museum, the Pearl Harbor Memorial Fund and the Vietnam Vets Wives.

Recognition

In 2004, GE was a recipient of the Freedom Award from the Department of Defense for the support we have given our employees in the National Guard and Reserves who have been called to active duty. With the continuing hostilities in Iraq and Afghanistan, these brave men and women increasingly have been the front line of our national defense with long and repeated deployments.

For all the brave men and women who have volunteered to serve our nation, we support you in all your efforts and look forward to your safe return.
