At GE, we are focused on bringing our people, expertise and technologies together to make a difference to communities in need. It’s one of the many ways we believe our actions as a global company reflect our responsibilities as a good corporate citizen.
“Good citizenship is our way of life. A natural part of how we work at GE.” — Bob Corcoran, Vice President, Corporate Citizenship
Our Developing Health Globally™ program is an example of GE’s sustainable approach to philanthropy. In countries such as Ghana, our volunteers are hands-on — building relationships and working hard to ensure our efforts to improve healthcare in rural communities are enduring and tangible.
“Africa is a continent where we can help people with some of our most innovative products.” — Brackett Denniston III, Senior Vice President and General Counsel
Donations of medical equipment are just the beginning. In Ghana, we’ve provided and installed water, power and communications systems to address the gaps that exist in rural hospitals. We also work closely with local healthcare teams to strengthen their sense of ownership.
The Developing Health Globally program began in 2004 with a $20 million investment in rural African communities. Since then, it has expanded to a five-year, $30 million commitment that reaches 11 countries in Africa and Latin America, and hundreds of thousands of people in need.
Latin America: By partnering with the Honduran Ministry of Health, GE has already improved healthcare access at three public hospitals, and progress is underway to upgrade three more facilities.
Africa: Since our first meeting with the Ministry of Health in Ghana, the program has quickly grown to include 11 facilities across the country.
Southeast Asia: Cambodia is the first country participating in GE's Developing Health Globally program in Asia. Discussions with the Ministry of Health are underway to identify suitable public hospitals.
Every day, the people of GE seek to improve the world in which we live.
