GE’s donation of critical medical equipment is just the beginning of our commitment.
The GE Developing Health Globally program began in 2004 to provide better access to health care in underserved communities in the developing world. The program draws on GE products, expertise and employee engagement to provide a sustainable, enterprise solution approach to gaps that exist in many rural health care facilities today.
In October 2009, we commissioned the first 3 hospital upgrade projects in Cambodia, providing improvements in power, water and medical equipment in key areas of each facility. As part of the product donation, we provided full installation and training support at each location. And we gave each hospital a volunteer — a GE Ambassador — to build a relationship that facilitates business best practice sharing, monitoring and capacity-building.
The Kossamak National Hospital, Kampong Speu Referral Hospital and Phnom Penh Municipal Referral Hospital — treat thousands of patients in the city of Phnom Penh and its surrounding villages. In the early weeks after installation, over 100 newborns had already benefited from these new improvements.
Globally, the program directly impacts 4.8 million people through GE’s $40 million commitment. From rural clinics in Ghana to the hospitals of Honduras, GE has provided necessary water, power and medical equipment in 14 countries throughout Africa, Latin America and Southeast Asia.
